Hello World!

Greetings to the fellow members of POLS 3380 (and anyone else who decides to view)!

My blog is called The Feminist Column. The posts that will flow through my blog and my Twitter (@fbliss6speaks) will be centered around women's rights world wide, gender equality, will from time to time feature major happenings in feminist history as well as following the "I need feminism because..." movement. Many people are unfamiliar with the types and generations of feminism, so I will feature a post laying out the types and differences.

I chose the topic of feminism because I am a feminist. I believe that many other people (both men and women) are feminists as well, but don't realize it or chose not to. When topics are presented with the word "feminism" or "feminist," they are often disregarded and chalked up to be man hating without being given the slightest attention.

Some feminists want for men and women to be equal. Some feminists push for special views and treatment on the count of sex. The twists, turns, specifications and differences of people who unite themselves under the single term of feminist makes the topic endless!

To start the blog off right, let's define feminism:

“Ideally, what should be said to every child, repeatedly, throughout his or her school life is something like this: 'You are in the process of being indoctrinated. We have not yet evolved a system of education that is not a system of indoctrination. We are sorry, but it is the best we can do. What you are being taught here is an amalgam of current prejudice and the choices of this particular culture. The slightest look at history will show how impermanent these must be. You are being taught by people who have been able to accommodate themselves to a regime of thought laid down by their predecessors. It is a self-perpetuating system. Those of you who are more robust and individual than others will be encouraged to leave and find ways of educating yourself — educating your own judgements. Those that stay must remember, always, and all the time, that they are being moulded and patterned to fit into the narrow and particular needs of this particular society.”
― Doris Lessing, The Golden Notebook
Just one matter of housekeeping, a few of you all have added my personal (@fbliss6) account on Twitter. Do note that I welcome all followers, but that account isn't the one for this class.

See you all next post and on Twitter!
